Little Man's Potty Training Journal

On March 26, 2014 Cason went to the doctor for a check up. We talked about potty training and decided Cason was ready to begin. He's been showing signs of readiness by pulling at his diaper when it's full, telling me right away if he's gone poop, and being infatuated with the toilets in the house. So, we bought a potty at Target on our way home from the doctor's office. Thus begins our potty training journal!

March 26 - After getting home from the doctor, Cason began sitting on the potty. He loved it right away. I gave him m&m's each time he sat on the potty to help him get used to sitting on it.

March 27 - We began by wearing diapers and sitting on the potty after meals, after sleeping, and before bath time. He sat on the potty a few times and actually went pee once. Of course it was a coincidence that he went, but we celebrated and ate another m&m!

March 28-29 - Sat on the potty a few times, nothing came out each time. I wasn't very good about getting him to try these two days. We had company in town and it just wasn't a good time to keep trying.

March 30 - After his nap, I decided I'd give bare bum a try. This was recommended in several online resources. I'm glad I gave it a try because I learned a lot! Around 2:00, after his nap, I took his diaper off, covered the rug with blankets and towels, and set the potty out. In 2 hour's time, the kid peed 10 times! I had read that little ones go A LOT, but didn't realize it was that much. Each time he began going, I'd say let's to tee tee on the potty and then lift him onto the potty. Some people may think I'm crazy to do this, but I've read a lot about bare bum and how it helps toddlers learn what feeling they get just before going. It's also good for them to actually see it happen. Anyway, after 2 hours of this, I was tired of sitting around in the living room. So I put a diaper back on him and we went for a walk.

April 3 - I may be jinxing myself, but today we have gone bare bum and I'm half way through the day. It's not as bad as I expected it to be. Tomorrow afternoon, we will make the switch to underwear. I also have a couple places to go tomorrow and we'll be out and about with underwear on. I've been hesitant and anxious about potty training, but I know he's for sure ready and he's catching on little by little. Tomorrow seems like it will be a challenge and I'm ready to take it on!
